Some people have issues
So I’m at the register (again, all fricking day) and the mother of one of the girls I works with comes in. She recognizes me, I recognize her, she smiles at me, and I smile and say, “Hi, how are you?” Right behind her is another woman (who I don’t know) with a boy of about 12, who says, “What, I don’t get the same greeting because I’m African-American?” You could hear the THUD of my jaw hitting the floor. I have never been accused of being a racist. I made sure to tell the floor manager what happened, in case she says anything. She gets on line to check out, I smile at her and wave her over, and she gives me the dirtiest look, and looks away, waiting behind someone else. She says something to the boy with her, and he looks over and gives me a dirty look. Unbelievable. Yeah, that’s exactly the reason I didn’t greet you like I know you. I have a feeling that she’d have a problem with whatever I said to her, no matter what it was. Maybe someone pissed in her Cheerios. What an idiot.
